WHALE WATCH BEACH PARTY!

Dear Parents,

We had so much this week preparing for our beach party.  We introduced our unit by reading The Rainbow Fish, The Ocean Alphabet Book, and Rainbow Fish to the Rescue. We then had a discussion about the different types of fish and sea creatures that live in the ocean such as dolphins, whales, sharks, crabs, lobsters, and turtles.
The children made aquariums by placing fish stickers on the outside a plastic container, and then added rocks, shells, glitter, frogs, and blue-colored water inside the container.  The results were spectacular!  The children has so much fun playing with them and watching the frog swim around inside of it.

We also made delicious edible aquariums for snack using blue Jello and gummy fish, mm... were they delicious!

The children enjoyed listening to the "Rainbow Fish" story so much that we decided to make our own rainbow fish.  Each child was given one shiny scale and an assortment of scales, glitter, and sequins which they then glued onto a fish template. We attached the fish to a net that we displayed on our classroom bulletin board. Please stop by to see our "Under the Sea" display.

We concluded our unit by having an incredible beach party.  The children looked so adorable in their beach attire.  Some of the activities included decorating beach balls and sailor hats.  The children also made binoculars decorated with fish stickers.  They used these to look for whales during our "whale watch."  I hid pictures of whales throughout our classroom while Barbara read them a fish story outside the classroom.  The children then came in with their binoculars and searched for the whales.  Once the children found a whale they sat on their beach towels and listened to stories about each of the whales they had found.

BEARY GOOD WEEK!

Dear Parents,

We had a "beary" good week.  We enjoyed bringing our bears, dogs, cats, rabbits,  and birds to class and taking them to the "Animal Hospital." Some of them had ear aches, broken legs, and others had their annual physicals.  We used our language skills to get a complete medical history on our animals.  We put a splint on a bear with a broken leg and administered shots to sick dogs.  One animal had an accident and got completely covered with bandages. The children also had fun making doctor/nurse bags.

We ended our week with a cool science experiment.  We made a bottle wave by adding water, mineral oil, blue food coloring and a fish. We also made a bottle tornado (vortex).  We learned from this project that in order for water to flow down, air must flow up.
Please ask your child about this.
