Dear Parents,

The artist we learned about this week was Wayne Thiebaud.  He is an American painter known for his colorful works such as pies, paint cans, gum ball machines as well as landscapes and figure paintings.  After our classroom discussion, we chose to make cupcakes.  We cut out the shape of a cupcake and frosted it with a combination of glue, flour, food coloring and shaving cream. They looked good enough to eat!

We also made lollipops by rolling clay into spiral shapes, painting them with water colors, and then gluing them onto a craft stick.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Purim with the Whole Note Class by making hamantashen, (cookies) filled with jelly or chocolate, and reading Purim stories.

On Thursday we celebrated Easter by reading Pete the Cat's Big Easter Adventure.  We also colored Easter eggs with Delia's mother (a parent from the Whole Note Class) and finally we had an Easter egg hunt.

We ended the week by making paper collaged ice cream cones, which we added to our Wayne Thiebaud bulletin board.  Please drop by to see our fabulous bulletin board! It is amazing how the children have mastered the use of the scissors.

We look forward to creating Wayne Thiebaud's gum ball machine
next week.

100 DAYS OF SCHOOL

Dear Parents,

We had so much fun this week celebrating our 100th day of school!
On Monday, we started the day off by counting 100 popsicle sticks. Each child made a sticker chart by counting out 100 stickers by 10's and added them to their chart.  It took a lot of hard to complete this task.
We continued our celebration on Friday by having a pajama party. The children looked so adorable in their pjs.  They had so much fun counting out 100 fruit loops and then making necklaces with them. The children also made adorable teddy bear puppets.  The snack for the day was  porridge (oatmeal), of course. We ended the day by reading Goldilock and the Three Bears.   The children each had a turn acting out the story.

That porridge was delicious!
Next week we look forward to learning about Henry Thibeau, a famous American painter, and replicating some of his work.

Love,

Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara
