ALL ABOUT ART!

Dear Parents,
On Monday we celebrated Micah's 4th birthday!  Thank you to his family for the delicious cupcakes!

This week we began working on our projects for the art show.  The first artist we introduced was Peter Reynolds, award winning author and illurstrator of The Dot, The North Star, and Ish, as well as the owner of the Blue Bunny Book Store, and founder of Fablevision.

We had a class discussion about what an artist can be.  He/she could be a painter, artist, sculptor, dancer, etc. We will be spending the next few weeks replicating various artist's work for our art show, which will be held at the school on April 10th.

We also, completed our final sketch and paintings for the Original Art Works Project.  The children worked so hard on their sunflowers.  The results were fantastic!

The children then created pictures out of dots by using bingo markers.

We also had a special visit this week from Puddlestompers - (a nature exploration program).  The goal of this program is to connect young children to the outdoors.  They taught the children about animals who are predators and what foods they eat.  Then the children searched in the woods for animal food.

We ended our week by celebrating Sophie's 5th birthday!  Thank you to her family for the delicious cake.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS

Dear Parents,

We  celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday by reading Hop on Pop, and then making Dr. Seuss Hats.  We cut, colored, and wrote rhyming words on our hats. We then read the rhyming words on each other's hats.

On Wednesday, we read Green Eggs and Ham and then made green scrambled eggs. The children had so much making the breakfast. They each had a chance to crack open an egg, which was so exciting for them.  We had a delicious breakfast which included: English muffins and jam, orange juice, grapes and of course green eggs.

Other fun areas in the classroom:

Having fun fishing!

Just having breakfast!

Having a great discussion!
We also practiced sketching and painting flowers flowers for the Original Art Works project.  We look forward to making our final sketch and painting next week.

Love,

Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara

ALL ABOUT PENGUINS!

Dear Parents,

We went on an amazing "journey" to the Antartica to visit the penguins.  The children learned several facts about penguins such as: Penguins can't fly but are excellent swimmers.  They are the only bird in the world that can not fly but can swim under water. There are 17 different species of penguins.  The largest penguin is 4 feet tall (emperor penguin) and the smallest is 16 inches tall (the little blue penguin).  The children enjoyed listening to the "Penguin Story," by Jane Arlington and Sharon Langon.

After reading about penguins, the children created their own.  First they painted egg cartons, then cut out wings, feet, and a beak and glued them all together to make an adorable penguin colony, which even included snow and icicles.

We had a great time in  music this week. Lisa came back from a Music Mind Games Workshop with lots of new music theory games. Today we learned "Daily Do" (part one) and worked with the rhythm puzzle to make whole notes, 1/2 notes, 1/4 notes, 1/8 notes, and 1/16 notes.  The new song we learned this week was called "A Penguin's Dash."

Yuting taught the children how to count to ten in Mandarin.  She also taught them a couple of new songs such as: "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," and "Where are my Friends?"

Other fun areas in our classroom:

We finished off our week by having a good bye costume party for Ritsu.  The children looked adorable in their costumes. We wish Ritsu the best of luck in his new school.

Good luck Ritsu!
