THE CELEBRATION CONTINUES!

Dear Parents,

The children had so much fun making Christmas trees with the Whole Note and Quarter Note Class.  They decorated ice-cream cones with green frosting, candy canes, sprinkles, and marshmallows.

The children continue to practice writing the alphabet letters as
well as their name.  They have completed all the straight line letters and will now begin to write curved letters such as P, Q, S, B, and
D, etc.

We hope you liked your holiday gifts as much as the children enjoyed making them. They couldn't wait to give them to you. Every day this children asked me if this was the day they were bringing them home.

Finally, we had our class room song festival.  The children did a great job singing.  I am sure you will agree!  We continued our holiday celebration by eating coffee cake, cookies, lemon poppy seed cake, and strawberries.  We hope you all had fun at our celebration.

We look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday, January 4, 2016.

Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara

PREPARING FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Dear Parents.

This week we talked about Christmas.  We read "Dad Christmas and Hanukkah Mama," by Selina Alko and "Christmas is here!" by Ellen Weiss.  The children worked so hard to make your holiday gifts.  We hope you enjoyed them.

The children created tree ornaments out of Popsicle sticks.  They also made 3-D Christmas trees by tracing and cutting two tree templates.  The children then decorated them with sequins, glitter, and buttons.  Finally we cut them down the middle and slid one tree onto another.  Voila, a fabulous tree!

We also worked on our Handwriting Without Tears book.  So far we have learned 13 of the alphabet letters: L, E, F, H, T, I, U, C, O, Q, G, S, and J.  The children are also working on learning the letter sounds.

In music class this week we practiced singing our holiday songs, such as: "Jingle Bells, "I have a Little Dreidel," and "We wish you a Merry Christmas." They  practiced the violin positions and playing the piano.  I am also learning how to play the piano. The children will probably learn how to play before I do.

Other areas of interest in our classroom:

Taking a rest after a hard days's work!
We look forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday, December 23rd at 9:15 for a little classroom holiday party.

Love,
Ms. Bonne and Ms. Barbara

HANUKKAH BEGINS!

Dear Parents,

We began our holiday unit by learning about Hanukkah, Christmas, and Krampus.  If you celebrate a different holiday please let us know, so we can celebrate your holiday as well.

We had lots of fun this week preparing for our holidays.  This week our focus was on Hanukkah (the festival of lights) which lasts for eight days. We celebrated the holiday in our class by playing the dreidel game, which is one of the Hanukkah traditions, and made edible dreidels.  Mmm, were they delicious!  We also read Hanukkah books and taught the children the Story of Hanukkah.

On Friday, we celebrated Krampus, a European holiday.  The children put their shoes in the hallway, and if they were good St. Nick would put candy in their shoes.  If they were not well behaved, Krampus would put rocks in them.  Of course, all of our children received candy.

We finished our week off by making 3-D dreidels. The children also made Christmas and Hanukkah ornaments such as stars, dreidels, Christmas trees, and bells.

In music this week we sang "O Hanukkah, O Hanukkah," and "Jingle Bells."  The children went "ice skating" to the "Skater's Waltz, using paper plates on their feet.  They also are learned to name the parts of a violin.   Finally, they rang bells and danced to  "Sleigh Ride."

Note:
Our Holiday Party will be on Wednesday, December 23rd.  More information to follow.
