FUN IN THE SNOW!

Dear Parents,

We continued our winter unit by reading Snow Day, by Barbara Joosse.  We then made snow globes by rolling clay into three balls.
and then sticking them together to create a snowman.  We baked them in the oven, and after they were done and cooled down, we decorated them with markers, and added pipe cleaner arms.  We put them into a container, added water, glitter and styrofoam pieces.

We celebrated Gaven's fourth birthday.  Thank you to his family for the delicious cupcakes.

Happy Birthday Gaven!

We also made snow scenes by sponge painting a snowman, a tree, and snow flakes.  We used Q-tips to paint snow on the tree.  We added torn paper to represent snow and covered it with a clear containers.

We had a special visit this week from Joe, the story teller.  Some of the stories he told were "The Gingerbread Man" and "The Grasshoper and the Ant."  The children were memorized by the stories!

WINTER WONDERLAND!

Dear Parents,

We learned all about the winter season this week.  We now know that it comes after fall.  Some of the things we observed outside, were: it is very cold, the trees have lost their leaves, and the ground is covered with snow.

We celebrated winter by reading Snowball, by Lois Ehlert.  After reading the book we talked about the different snow people we saw in the book.  Each child chose the one they wanted to create.  Some of the children chose snow dogs, snow cats, snow moms, and snow girls.  The children had so much fun choosing among the various items such as raisins, popcorn, buttons, straw, and yarn.  They may have eaten some of the popcorn and raisins while making their project.

We also made "name snowmen" by counting how many letters in each of our names and then writing each letter on a circle.  We then added hats, scarves, buttons, and sequins.  They look so adorable hanging on our "Snow What Fun" bulletin board.

We would also like to welcome our new classmates, Sally and Sophie.  They have both made a wonderful addition to our class.

On Friday we celebrated Sally's 5th birthday.  Thank you to her family for the delicious treats.

Happy Birthday Sally!

winter jackets, boots, mittens, snow pants and a warm hat.

We are collecting the square Kleenex boxes for a project.  We would appreciate if you could bring an empty one to school.
